LeMond, Giffords to headline El Tour de Tucson

America’s all-time greatest male cyclist will ride in El Tour de Tucson on Saturday.

Greg LeMond, who won the Tour de France in 1986, 1989 and 1990 will participate in the 40-mile ride along with former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

The 33rd annual ride is dedicated to Giffords, who will ride with her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly.

Giffords survived an assasination attempt and gunshot wound to her head during a 2011 constituent visit to Tucson. She rode in the 11-mile fun ride last year.

“We have enormous respect for Congresswoman Giffords and Captain Kelly and for what they’ve had to overcome,” said Richard DeBernardis, founder & president of El Tour de Tucson. “We are honoring Gabby and Mark for dedicated service to their country and for electing to use bicycling as a means to get back to good mental and physical health.”
