Oregon State rider dies in collegiate race

A rider from the Northwest Collegiate Cycling Conference died Sunday after a crash at a road race Saturday in Washington.

Randall Fox, 29, a Ph.D student and graduate teaching assistant at Oregon State University, was riding downhill on a road near Flaming Geyser State Park when he lost control and crashed into a guardrail, according to reports from the King County Sheriff’s Office complied by KPTV.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, officials told media.

Fox was getting his Ph.D in mechanical engineering with a specialty in thermal thermal-fluid sciences, according to OSU’s website.

An email to the NWCCC director has not been returned.
