The Dana Point Grand Prix brought out pro men to battle for USA Cycling Pro Road Tour points but competed with a jam-packed weekend of cycling that spread heavy hitters across the country.
With another PRT crit in Charlotte, N.C., the Red Hook Criterium in Brooklyn, N.Y. and the Whiskey Off-Road in Prescott, Ariz., the two-day criterium weekend riders were noticeably absent from pro fields compared to last year.
But it certainly didn’t stop the ferocity of competition – Team Jamis’ Luis Amaran and Eric Marcotte broke away and nearly lapped the field to go 1-2, while Shelby Reynolds (Monster Media) and Colleen Gulick (Riptide Cycling) split wins.
