Caitlin Conyers (unattached) continued her dominating streak of victories in the Women’s Pro 1/2/3 races with a win Sunday at the UA Grand Prix in Tucson, Ariz.
The Bermudian has won with daylight separating her from her opponents in all three races she’s entered so far in Arizona: Avondale 2, La Vuelta a Santa Catalina Road Race and the UA Grand Prix. Cecile Lejeune (Landis/Trek) and Meghan Henry (unattached) closed the gap early on, but weren’t able to thwart Conyers last-lap attack.
Matthew Riccitello (LUX/Specialized by Cynergy), racing age 18, came away with the win after a blistering break of five riders left the field behind early in the Men’s Pro 1/2/3 race.
Kaden Hopkins (Fort Lewis College), Ethan Overson (Gateway Trek), Keegan Swenson (Stan’s/Pivot PRo Team p/b Maxxis) and Colby Simmons, Riccitello’s teammate, set the pace with Riccitello the majority of the race. They finished in that order behind Riccitello, who finished in second place in the same race last year.
On the Cat 5 front, Bern Velasco (Bicycle Ranch Tucson Racing p/b Tucson ER & Hospital) took the win, making it a double-victory weekend for Bicycle Ranch. Velasco’s teammate, Timothy Finnegan, won La Vuelta a Santa Catalina Road Race the day before.
Sophie Linn (unattached) went 2-2 on the weekend, picking up another Cat 5 win in the UA Grand Prix after winning La Vuelta a Santa Catalina the day before.
