Tour de Murrieta wraps up with Breck, McElroy as omnium victors

The Tour de Murrieta finished Sunday with a circuit race, challenging riders to four-mile-long laps around a course with small, punchy climbs.

Sean McElroy (Legion of Los Angeles) held onto his omnium leader’s jersey in the Men’s Pro 1/2 race by finishing second in the circuit race. Sam Boardman (Wildlife Generation Pro cycling p/b Maxxis) took the win.

In the Women’s Pro 1/2/3 circuit race, a solo break by Canadian Emily Marcolini (Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank) was eventually caught by Mexican Fernanda Polanco Silvia (Durango-Specialized-IED Women’s Pro Cycling Team México). Silvia outsprinted Marcolini for the win just as her Colombian teammate Jessica Parra did the day before in the crit.

But Parra, who was wearing the leader’s jersey, finished 12th on the day and gave up the jersey to Holly Breck (Go Fast-Incycle), who finished third in the circuit race and first in Saturday’s crit for the omnium win.
