Summer Moak (LUX/sideshow p/b Specialized) blazed through the Valley of the Sun time trial Friday, taking a nearly 50-second lead in the Women’s Pro 1/2 field.
Moak’s time of 30:53.66 bested her previous VOS TT time from 2018 by over a minute and a half, and she sits in first place over Jen Luebke (TWENTY20). Moak’s teammate, Zoe Ta-Perez is in third.
Magnus Sheffield (Hot Tubes Development Team), a 2019 junior Worlds road race bronze medalist, set the standard for the Men’s Pro/1 field, opening up a nearly 34-second lead on the rest of the field.
Behind him sits Tyler Williams (Legion of Los Angeles) and Tucson’s Matthew Riccitello (LUX/sideshow p/b Specialized).
Up next: The pro teams and 22 other fields will compete Saturday in the road race near Sacaton, Ariz., followed by Sunday’s crit at the Arizona Capitol.
