No big surprises in cross series championship

No major upsets occurred Saturday in the Arizona cross series finale, and riders with big leads walked away as series champs.

Kimberly Lucie (unattached) put an exclamation point on her commanding overall series leads with wins in both the women’s open and the women’s 3/4 races.

Although men’s open leader Kyle Reedy (Jetset Racing) finished in fourth place at the race, his 19-point series lead carried him to an overall championship. Brian Matter (unattached) won the race ahead of Brandon McNulty (Landis/Trek) in second and Kyle Trudeau (UA Cycling) in third. Tyler Coplea (unattached) did not finish after a crash into a fence post; he suffered a nasty cut and deep bruise to his shoulder. Two others did not finish.

McNulty took the win for the juniors category, in which he was just three points ahead of his teammate Brenden Bengston.
