The first-ever Marana Heritage Crit went off Saturday with riders battling winds from nearly every direction on a 2k course with long straights and one slightly technical section leading into the last 800m.
Michael Dutczack (Ego p/b Sammy’s Bikes) landed on the top step of the podium for the Men’s Pro/1/2/3 race, followed by Max Cronyn (El Grupo) and Adam Bryfogle (Landis/Trek).
While 15 women signed up for the Women’s 3/4 race, only three women signed up for the Women’s Pro/1/2/3 race, and they opted to use the course’s ideal final straightaway to do a best-of-three drag race. Maureen McAuliffe (Landis/Trek) nabbed round 1, while Sarah Muench (Bicycle Haus Racing) won the final two.
The much-anticipated Men’s Cat 4/5 race included a wheel prime that went to Yuri Luzanau (Superissimo). Johnny Corcoran (Bike Accident Attorneys) won the race with Joshua Watts (Arizona State University) in second and Derek Green (unattached) in third.
