Video: Top sprinters duke it out at Belmont

The best sprinters in the game duked it out after getting away in a break on Lap 6 at the Belmont Criterium in North Carolina on Sunday, setting up for a monster finale at Day 2 of Speed Week.

Coryn Rivera (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling) edged out Samantha Schneider (ISCorp Cycling p/b Smart Choice MRI) by about .002 seconds with Erica Allar (Rally Cycling) in third.

“It was aggressive from the start,” Schneider said. “About six laps in, a breakaway was already established with Coryn Rivera, Erica Allar and myself. It was a photo finish between Coryn and I, but she ultimately had it by .002.”

The three took the top three spots in the same order the day before, but Schneider came within the slimmest of margins at Belmont.

The day before the rain came down at the Charlotte Criterium and soaked the course, making for an uncertain finish, but Rivera said she relied on the UnitedHealthcare blue train for the win.

“We had to wait until the final couple laps to see what would happen,” Rivera said. “It was left down to the OG crit squad of Lauren, Cari and I at the end. We knew what we needed to do coming into the final lap, and we pulled it off.”
