10 selected for Pan American Continental XCO Championships

USA Cycling announced on Monday 10 riders who were approved by its selection committee to compete at the 2019 Pan American Continental Mountain Bike XCO Championships.

The event will take place in Aguascalientes, Mexico April 3-7.

Among the competitors are current Elite Women’s World Champion Kate Courtney (Scott-SRAM) and U23 Men’s World Championships Silver Medalist Christopher Blevins (Specialized Bicycles Factory Racing Team).

“We are sending a very strong team down to the Pan Am Championships in Aguascalientes,” said mountain bike director for USA Cycling, Marc Gullickson. “This will be a great opportunity to collect valuable UCI points for our top elite riders and we have strong medal contenders in the categories we are competing.”

Along with Courtney and Blevins are national champions Howard Grotts (Specialized Factory Racing Team) and Erin Huck (CZ Racing).

“I’m really excited to be named to the Pan-Am team,” Huck said. “It has always been one of my favorite experiences and the opportunity to race in Aguascalientes is osmething I’m really looking forward to. I always try to soak up as much of the culture as I can, but the goal will be to come away as the Pan Am champion.”

Keegan Swenson (Stan’s-Pivot Pro Team p/b Maxxis), who was selected to go for the Elite Men, said he’s looking forward to competing and that he enjoys racing in Mexico and South America.

“It’s also a big early season goal for me, so I’d love to be able to get a good result and land myself on the podium,” Swenson said. “Also, it’s always an honor to represent Team USA with the red, white and blue team kit.”
