LUX women sweep VOS; Legion of Los Angeles repeats at crit

LUX Development Cycling Team’s 17-year-old junior phenom Kaia Schmid outsprinted a stacked Women’s Pro 1/2 field Sunday at the Valley of the Sun criterium as her teammate, Summer Moak, held onto her general classification lead for an overall victory.

Moak had won the time trial and road race, and with Schmid’s finish at the crit, the LUX team made a clean sweep of the three-day stage race. The question on spectators’ minds was if Moak would go for three consecutive stage wins, but LUX had cards to play and sent Schmid down a long finishing straight to emerge the victor.

Meanwhile in the Men’s Pro/1 race, Cory Williams (Legion of Los Angeles) picked up his second consecutive VOS crit victory, out-gunning a field of 71 riders in a bunch sprint.

With his national crit champion brother and teammate, Justin Williams, in the mix, as well as seven other teammates, Legion had a strong hand to play and decided to double down on Cory, which paid off in the end.
