Underground Crit to ‘take a break’ after April 7

The Underground Crit, a popular Phoenix training ride that simulates a criterium, will take a break after new construction projects sprouted, crowding the course with vehicles and construction debris.

Tim Fleming, founder of the UC, announced the temporary cancelation of the ride in an email newsletter Monday. After Tuesday, April 7, the four-year anniversary of the ride, the UC will take a break, Fleming said.

The ride has occured every Tuesday night, rain or shine since 2011.

“With the hot summer months upon us and the unfortunate traffic lately as the property develops, let’s take a break and re-evaluate in October and see if things have calmed down,” Fleming said in the email.

The final UC will happen Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. until the course can be reevaluated or until an alternative is found.
