The first Arizona Bicycle Racing Association crit and the first Mountain Bike Association of Arizona cross country race of 2018 both kicked off the season on Saturday. Nearly 900 riders showed up at the McDowell Meltdown mountain bike race, according to race results, while about 170 participated at Verrado, officials said. At McDowell, Olympian Chloe Woodruff won the Elite women’s race and Chase Edwards took the top step for the Marathon Women. Gerowill Perez took the victory for the Elite Men, while Kyle Trudeau won the Marathon Men. Out on the west side of the Valley, Adam Bryfogle (Landis/Trek) continued a several-year streak of winning the first race of the season in the Pro/1/2/3 Men’s field.
