Ariz. amateurs to compete in road nationals

More than a dozen Arizona cyclists will compete this week in the USA Cycling Amateur & Para-cycling Road National Championships in Madison, Wisc.

Daniel Eaton (Canyon Bicycles-Shimano), Brandon McNulty (Landis/Trek), Tyler Coplea (Gateway Harley Davidson/Trek), Michael Dziedzic (Landis/Trek) and Clayton Stone (Athlete Octane) will be threats in their age groups, including in the Under 23 Pro 1/2/3, one of the largest fields in the competition. The five have been putting up big numbers both at home and across the country in other national competitions.
Kayla Hankins (Strada Racing), who just set a national track record in the 500-meter time trial and won the USA Cycling Juniors National Track Championships for her 11-12 age group, has an opportunity to pick up another gold.

Todd Key (Team Winded), with a national titles under his belt already this year, could blaze past his para-cycling competition with just one leg; he often does so to two-legged cyclists on his training rides in Scottsdale.

Air National Guard Sgt. Ryan Pinney (unattached) who with his teammates rode the Ride 430 Challenge last year on a hand bike, will take on national-level competition in the same manner.
