Chad Beyer (Superissimo) and Chloe Woodruff (Stan’s No Tubes) took the pinnacle of Arizona KOM/QOMs Sunday at the state championship hill climb up Mt. Graham.
Beyer, who has raced in world tours, clocked 1:25:27 and Woodruff, a short-track national champion mountain biker, finished with 1:46:21.
Hadn’t raced up Mt Graham since ’09. It’s 5.5K of climbing over 20 mi. Amazing views from on top & had an exciting race w/ @KathrynBertine
But neither was able to break the overall records held by Carlos Lopez and Melissa McWhirter, both set in 2008.
And Beyer’s time actually wasn’t the fastest; New Mexico’s Fortunato Ferrara (RA Racing Apparel/Trek) crossed the line 20 seconds faster, but can’t claim the championship due to his out-of-state status.
The closest woman to Woodruff was Katherine Bertine (BMW/Happy Tooth), who recently returned from UCI Road World Championships in Richmond, Va. She topped Mt. Graham with a time of 1:48:13.
Preliminary results from today’s race thanks to Nathalie Potvin (AZ Women’s Racing) – official results to be posted here:
