The final day of Valley of the Sun made for sprint fireworks for most fields on a flat course near the Arizona State Capitol.
Riders sped around seven-turn course with a long finishing straight looking for victory or to keep the general classification jersey on their team’s back.
A lack of hay bales on the course caused a 45-minute delay in the morning, cutting some races slightly short and delaying most.
Full results (As of Sunday night, crit and GC results had not been posted.)
Pro races
In the Women’s Pro field, Allie Dragoo (Sho-Air TWENTY20) held onto the GC, while Hagens Berman | Supermint’s Harriet Owen beat out Megan Jastrab (Rally UHC Cycling) in the final sprint to win the crit. Some confusion ensued when the final lap was announced when there were two laps to go.
In the Men’s Pro field, Cory Lockwood (Semper Porro) also held onto the GC, and made a point of it by controlling most of the race himself on Sunday. But it was the Legion of Los Angeles team who took over in the last lap and a half and sent Cory Williams to the line for the win in a final sprint.
